My opinion on this is very biased, as where I came from it was extremely common for my kind and the humanoids of our planet to work together and be dragon and dragon rider, to the point where several of us (myself included) would soul-bond with our riders and remain together all our lives. A dragon who was extremely close to me in my past life even chose to make my current human body their rider in the dream and astral worlds.
I used to think this was perfectly normal, but I've come to realize a great many dragons do not have happy associations with humanoids and do not like this kind of bond. Given a lot of the history of this planet regarding dragons, I can understand why and respect that. I guess it just depends on where you come from and what history your particular kind of dragon has with other sentient beings.
Personally, I never saw it as being tamed. If anything, I was taming my rider, if I HAD to say someone was being tamed in that situation. In reality, I feel we both benefitted from knowing each other and riding together.

*To be honest, I think the concept of dragon riders is interesting as long as there is a mutual bond shared between the dragon and the rider that isn't a "master and pet" kind of thing. Though, at the same time, I also don't mind it when there's a relationship between a rider and a (non-emotionally conscious) dragon that's akin to the relationship of a beast and beast tamer, as long as the rider doesn't see themselves as superior to the dragon still even though the dragon doesn't have the capacity to express emotion (like game of thrones dragons).

Back where I was from, we didn't really get along with humans!! There were always exceptions, of course, but I don't really think anyone had "riders". Having something move around on your back so close to your wings just sounds..... uncomfy. I'd much prefer (if I had to carry anyone around) to have them in my talons. Maybe it's just me, though!

I myself wouldn't let a human ride on my back, if I wouldn't get anything from it. But I'm also a quite feral wyvern which makes me a bit more neutral about it. I think they'd be able to tame me, if I still was a wyvern physically but I wouldn't let humans ruin my life, if you get what I mean. I'd fight for a more subtle life. Or they'd manage to tame me the way they tame today's tigers. I think if there was a human taming me, I'd be okay with them riding on my back, if they manage to make my life worth living, even as a "pet". I'm a bit in the grey zone there, I'd say. Just depends on how they treat me.
Though, I don't remember humans in my past life. Maybe there've been some dargon riders, maybe not. *shrug* I wasn't bonded with humans at least and remained wild.
